London Mayor Sadiq Khan is proposing to cut and make changes to a number of essential bus routes across the capital including the 211 which have served Knightsbridge & Belgravia for almost thirty years.
The move to alter this lifeline bus route has been described as ‘hypocritical’ following the Mayor’s increased spending on his own PR and ‘self-promoting’ foreign trips.
The 211 is essential to local people. Many people use it to reach appointments at Charing Cross, Chelsea & Westminster, Royal Brompton, Royal Marsden and St Thomas's hospitals. That's why local Conservatives are fighting to maintain this important service as it is. We’ve launched this petition and are urging as many people to sign as possible.
Time and time again people across Knightsbridge & Belgravia have been let down by the Mayor and his woeful management of Transport for London (TfL). This affront to our community is the latest in a long line of inaction which includes, the delay in delivering Crossrail, the Park Lane cycle lane which causes traffic to back up to Victoria and the crippling expansion of ULEZ.
Now is the time to stand up to the Mayor and say no to taking away the 211!
Commenting on the Mayor's plans Knightsbridge & Belgravia Councillor Tony Devenish AM said:
“The number 211 bus route has served the residents of Belgravia for almost 30 years. Mayor Khan is showing a blatant disregard for the people of Knightsbridge & Belgravia.”
Cllr Elizabeth Hitchcock added:
“We all want to see better air quality and fewer polluting cars on the road, but you can’t hammer residents with the increased congestion charge and the ULEZ, whilst at the same time removing their access to public transport.”
Cllr Rachael Robathan continued:
"We are working closely with local MP Nickie Aiken to save this important route. A large number of local people rely on it."
Have your say!
As well as signing the petition below, it's vital that you also let the Mayor know what you think directly. TfL are currently running a consultation until the 7 August about the Mayor's proposed changes to bus routes. You can take part in the consultation and let him know just how important the 211 is to you here.
