We spoke to Cllr Mark Shearer, one of three local Conservative councillors representing St James's ward in the heart of Westminster.
"Hi, my name is Mark Shearer and I'm a councillor here in St James's ward in Westminster, and I have two brilliant colleagues, Tim and Louise. And the three of us work constantly to represent the residents and the businesses in the community here in Westminster. This video is a quick insight into what we get up to. I'll be doing one periodically.
"And so to give you an update, last week, we had a community meeting in Great Peter Street where we brought together all the major agencies - the police, the council officers, the hostel management, the local housing associations with the local community to discuss some of the ASB the anti-social behaviour issues taking place. I'm really delighted that we've managed to secure the CCTV cameras there for another three months.
"They made a huge difference. Secondly, an example of anti-social behaviour. We've got car clubs, supercars, rocking up in big groups to Waterloo Place in St James's at midnight. They're doing doughnuts and backfiring their engines and driving really dangerously. So we're raising funds and we've donated some funds from our ward budget. To be able to enhance that local transport police offer and enforcement.
"We've also had, meetings with the Chinese community in Chinatown. And of course, this weekend I'm here at Westminster Abbey, it’s Armistice. So we'll be going to an important service with the Lord Mayor and the community to represent that. So in terms of my role, I'm Chief Whip for our group. That means I work closely with, with our leader, and with our group.
"And we've got a full council meeting coming up next week on Wednesday. So we will be debating homelessness and our concerns around that and asking questions to really hold the Labour administration to account. So if you're free on Wednesday, please tune into that. And in the meantime, if you need anything or interested in what we do, please do contact me.
"Thank you."
