Your Councillors have been doggedly working to change Westminster’s planning policy on Basements. We are delighted to be able to announce that a new policy is currently being consulted on that will limit the size of basements and require planning permission for all basement development. The plans are similar to those implemented by the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea Council recently.
- The new policy limits the size of all basement extensions to not more than 50% of the site.
- It also limits the depth of extensions to not more than "one storey below the lowest original floor," unless certain exceptions have been satisfied.
- The revised policy contains further guidance in relation to basement works, including direction on landscaping, loss of trees, energy efficiency and protecting the character of the original building.
This is a significant victory for Bayswater residents. The policy is still out for consultation and we would urge you to email [email protected] and give your views on the City Plan changes.
