Street furniture repaired quickly
Your local Councillors were recently contacted about a faulty street light in both Hamilton Terrace and Oak Tree Road as well as a broken bollard at the junction of Hamilton Terrace and St John’s Wood Road which had been placed there to protect pedestrians from vehicles mounting and cutting the corner at this busy junction.
The bollard was fixed after contact was made with Transport for London (TfL) who manage St John’s Wood Road and the street lights attended to within a couple of days. As one resident said, ‘the street light has been repaired in double quick time, thank you for your help’. If you would like to report any light or street furniture which is damaged and needs repairing, please do get in contact.
Baker Street cleaning & scaffolding
Scaffolding is currently covering Chiltern Court mansion block located in the southern part of the ward. This area has a notoriously high pedestrian footfall given its location next to Baker Street Station and near to Madame Tussauds. A resident contacted your local Councillors concerned about health and safety issues particularly the lack of appropriate lighting on this scaffolding and the accumulation of waste on the street in the area.
We acted quickly contacting London Underground asking them to review the lighting installed on the structure given this is on their land. The broken lights were fixed, and the timings adjusted to ensure they are lit at all times. Further, London Underground has accepted their responsibility for the cleaning of the pavement directly outside Baker Street station and we will monitor this to ensure they carry out their responsibility to keep it tidy and litter free.
Oversized vehicles
Residents who live and own a vehicle within Westminster are entitled to apply for a resident permit for the zone in which they live. There continues to be pressure for kerbside space so the vehicles being parked on residential bays need to conform with the required permitted measurements otherwise they take up valuable additional parking space. So when a resident made your local Councillors aware of what appeared to be an oversized vehicle and which had been issued with a permit for use in C zone, we ask Officers to investigate.
It transpired in this case the vehicle was indeed oversized and their permit has subsequently been withdrawn. Westminster does however offer trade parking permits which allows parking on residential, paid-for or shared-use bays for vehicles of all sizes. More information about these permits can be found by visiting www.westminster.gov.uk/apply-trade-parking-permit.
Gully clearing in Melina Place
Residents in Melina Place recently contacted your Councillors about an on-going issue of a blocked gully. We arranged for the gulley in question to be flushed which had the desired affect of unblocking and preventing the pooling of water on the kerbside. Westminster Officers are currently investigating to see if this blockage was linked to a near-by building development. Residents should be aware that the Council usually takes a deposit from the contractor of building developments in the event to cover any blockages. As one resident said ‘Thank you very much for your help… I do appreciate your kind attention in this matter’.
If you notice any gully’s blocked then please report it by going to www.westminster.gov.uk/report-it-roads-and-pavements. Residents maybe interested to learn across the Borough we have 16,500 gullies and items found in these gullies include gold jewellery, knives, mobile phones and in one case, a bag of sand! CCTV surveillance is now in operation to pick up and repair damage in the sewage pipes.
Barrow Hill major works update
Your local councillors have been working very hard with City West Homes to hold Keepmoat, the original contractor for the major works at Barrow Hill Estate which is located just off Allitsen Road, to account.
WCC has now terminated Keepmoat's employment contract and a term contractor has been appointed to carry out temporary repairs to the windows to make them weather-tight and operational and is currently on site to complete the repairs across the estate. We have been able to secure that the leaseholders will not pay for the current windows or temporary repairs to them. In addition, warranties and guarantees will be issued for these windows. A residents’ working party has been set up which is now meeting regularly to ensure residents have an input into the works going forward.
