20mph limit scheme trial
Westminster City Council is currently trialling 20mph at 38 sites across our city, predominately around Schools where there has been evidence of road safety concerns. Local people in St John’s Wood may have noticed 20mph signs went up on St John’s Wood Terrace in September near to Robinsfield Infant School.
Your local Councillors are supportive of this initiative and we welcome any comments from residents during this consultation period on whether you approve or otherwise. It is worth pointing out the Police are the only authority with the powers to enforce speed limits on our roads although we largely expect the scheme to be self-enforcing. If residents have any concerns about the speed of local traffic please either email your local Councillors or the Road Safety Team.
Manhole cover creates noise pollution
When a manhole cover becomes loose it invariably creates noise pollution to residents living near-by as vehicles drive over them. It is not always easy to resolve quickly if the manhole cover is on a TfL managed road. This was the case recently with covers on the Marylebone Road and St John’s Wood Road both of which needed fixing.
Your Councillors liaising with TfL and Thames Water have had those fixed. As one resident told us ‘On returning from holiday I found to my delight the problem of the loose manhole cover had been resolved and I would like to thank everyone involved especially my local Councillors’.
Rubbish bin & graffiti removed
Removing unwanted rubbish and graffiti is important to everyone. When we were informed of an abandoned rubbish bin which was overflowing with domestic and workmen's rubbish at the junction of St John’s Wood Road and Grove End Road and graffiti sprayed onto a wall just off Allitsen Road, we moved quickly to have them both removed.
The resident who informed us of about the graffiti said ‘I cannot thank you enough for sorting this issue out so quick, this is why the Regent’s Park ward is such a great place to live in when we have such amazing councillors who actually deliver’.

UK Power continue working on Lisson Grove & Aberdeen Place
Local people will be aware of the on-going UK Power Network (UKPN) works currently taking place on both Lisson Grove and Aberdeen Place. These are emergency works to repair and replace key distribution cables with the aim to avoid any future major loss of power in the NW8 area. The works have resulted in traffic being diverted along St John’s Wood Road including the 139 and 189 buses travelling northbound.
Your local Councillors continue to press UKPN to complete these works and to ensure both sites are properly resourced because often there seems to be a lack of activity which is frustrating for both residents and visitors to the area. We have been told the works are scheduled to be completed by the beginning of December.
