Your Councillors have raised the poor condition of the Royal Oak tube station with Transport for London and as a result the old staircase will be replaced by Transport for London (TfL) soon.
Unfortunately, in order to carry out the work the station will be closed between Saturday 11 April and Monday 11 May so that TfL can replace the staircase between the ticket hall and the platforms.
The existing staircase is in poor condition and requires complete replacement, as maintenance and partial repairs are no longer sufficient to prolong its use. Because it is the only access between the ticket hall and platforms, it is necessary to close the station fully during the work. Use of a temporary staircase was considered, but there is no safe location for one to be installed.
TfL are advising customers about the closure and alternative travel arrangements through a full programme of communications including emails, Metro articles, posters and announcements in stations, and via social media updates. Bayswater, Warwick Avenue, Paddington and Westbourne Park stations are all within 15 minutes’ walk, and there are frequent buses between Royal Oak and Edgware Road or Paddington stations (via routes 18 or 36 respectively).
