We spoke to Cllr Mark Shearer, one of three Conservative councillors representing St James's ward in Westminster.
"Hi, my name is Mark Shearer and I'm a local ward councillor here at Westminster Council, along with colleagues Tim Mitchell and Louise Hyams. A quick kind of ‘Week as a Councillor’ update. First things first, we're very worried about some of the post offices closing in our ward. There's a post office on Strand, Aldwych, that is closing.
"And there's another one down near St James's Park, at Broadway, that is being earmarked for closing. So please sign our petitions. We want to keep them here. Secondly, we've been working closely with our hostels, enabling them access to the local sports centres, getting more activities in and making sure that the hostel residents are really engaged and have things to do every day.
"The third thing I'd say is that we're working closely with the police on enforcing against what we call ‘boy racers’ in Waterloo Place. We are working very hard on that, so stay tuned. What we're trying to do is get another PSPO public space protection order in place there, and also some further funding for the police.
"Aside from that, we are here to support a lot of the Christmas activities that are going on, the events, the Christmas tree lighting, and so on. So if we don't see you before, then have a very good Christmas and New Year. And please do get in touch if there's anything we can help you with. Thank you."
