We are deeply concerned by the news that the Mayor of London is cutting the dedicated police force focused on security within the parks. For local people, as well as visitors, the Parks are a vital space for everyone to enjoy in safety. We are especially concerned that women, children and the elderly should feel confident being able to use our wonderful parks.
Coming on the back of the closure of Belgravia police station and regular complaints that there are not enough police on our streets, this is yet another concern for law and order in our area. We have written to the Metropolitan Police to express our deep concerns.
Cllr Paul Swaddle OBE, Leader of the Conservative Group at Westminster City Council, explains
I have written today to the Met Police over my and colleagues concerns over the news that Sadiq Khan, Mayor of London, is planning to cut The Royal Parks' dedicated police force. These are a vital space for people of the City of Westminster and it is essential that everyone - especially women, girls, and children - can use them safely.
Coming on top of concerns that there aren’t enough police on our streets, it is no surprise that our residents are raising fear of crime as their number one worry.
