A message from Councillor Lindsey Hall, your Conservative candidate for Westminster North
Your three Conservative councillors represent you on Westminster City Council: a Conservative-run council which delivers low taxes, clean streets and high quality services. But you currently don’t have a Conservative voice in Parliament.
On June 8, I am standing to become that voice, working with Theresa May to deliver the best possible Brexit deal for Westminster North and the whole country. There is no point in your political representation standing on the sidelines. I promise to be your strong and influential voice in Parliament, working with Government, representing the best interests of the people and businesses of Westminster North.
I have served on Westminster City Council for over a decade, raised my family here, started my business here and lived all my adult life here. I can think of no greater honour than serving our community at this important time. 11 days after the General Election, the EU will start Brexit negotiations with Britain. Only the Conservatives have a plan for Brexit and the ability to deliver the best deal.
This is a tight race, especially here in Westminster North, and every vote is going to count. Just the loss of 6 seats will see the Conservatives lose their majority and will usher in a coalition of chaos led by Jeremy Corbyn as Prime Minister. I don’t believe that this what the residents of Westminster North want. Make sure you have your say in this crucial election.
Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you would like to know my views on any issue or if I can help in any way. If you would like to get in touch with me, please contact [email protected]
Increased capacity for 274 bus
The 274 bus provides a valuable service for those residents in Regent’s Park ward who live on the east side of the ward especially along Prince Albert Road. A number of residents have contacted your local Conservative Councillors concerned about the overcrowding during the summer given this bus serves London Zoo, Primrose Hill and Regent’s Park. We have been liaising with TfL who are responsible for the buses across the Capital about this issue and seeking a solution.
They have informed us the service has temporarily been enhanced from the end of March to the end of October by upping its frequency to cater for this increase in demand. TfL are planning to review potential permanent solutions when the contract for the route expires including the possibility to convert route 274 to a double deck bus. Your Councillors will continue to push TfL on this issue. One resident commented ‘Thanks for your support on this on-going issue’.
Cleaning up dog fouling
Every dog owner has a duty to clean up after their dog in public places however not everyone does and this is incredibly frustrating and annoying for our residents. We have the potential at the Council to issue an £80 fixed penalty but often it is not easy to catch the offenders.
On being recently contacted about issues of dog fouling on Chalbert Street and Hamilton Terrace, your local Councillors organised for new signs to be put up and targeted cleaning to take place. In addition, in cooperation with Westminster’s animal warden a dog chipping and awareness day was held in Regent’s Park on Saturday 6th May. If you wish to report any dog fouling or dog related issues please either contact us or visit https://www.westminster.gov.uk/other-dog-related-issues#dogissue
Coaches dropping off in Baker Street
Coaches provide an integral and vital part of our transport network with routes from around the country coming into the Capital with many passing through St John’s Wood. A large number of coaches from Green Line to National Express make a stop in the southern part of our ward on Baker Street between Park Road and Marylebone Road.
Residents living in Chalfont Court on Baker Street contacted your local Councillors about issues of setting down passengers, idling and overstay parking on the designated coach bay. A meeting with TfL and Westminster officers was arranged and a number of measures are being put in place to help alleviate these issues.
One resident commented ‘Thank you for arranging for the key players to meet to look at our traffic and pollution issue and we are hopeful these will resolve the issues we have been facing’.
Residents wishing to report any coach or vehicle issues should visit https://www.westminster.gov.uk/report-it-vehicles
The Star Public House planning application
Your local Councillors supported the concerns of many local residents around The Star public house and its planning application to install an overhead awning in its forecourt. http://committees.westminster.gov.uk/documents/s22612/ITEM%2007%20-%20STAR%2038%20ST%20JOHNS%20WOOD%20TERRACE%20LONDON%20NW8%206LS.pdf
The worry of many was this canopy could provide year round shelter for the purpose of shisha smoking. Although The Star is technically just outside of our ward on St John’s Wood Road & Charlbert Street, any proposal would affect our residents living near-by. At a planning committee meeting on Tuesday 23rd May this application was refused on both design grounds and the amenity impact on residents.
It is worth remembering The Star was given ‘Asset of Community Value’ (ACV) status by Westminster Council following its closure in March 2015 and a campaign to stop it being turned into luxury flats.
