Removing unwanted street clutter
Keeping our streets clean, clutter free and in working order is important to our residents. With that in mind, you’re local Councillors recently arranged for an abandoned bicycle on St John’s Wood Road and rubbish which had been dumped on Barrow Hill Road just off the High Street, be removed, as well as, the fixing of a broken street light on Circus Road. If residents notice any street clutter or rubbish, then please contact your local Conservative Councillors or alternatively call the Westminster Environmental Action line on 020 7641 2000 or click here to use the online street problem reporting service.
Restoration of the iconic London Zoo Snowdon Aviary
London Zoo received planning permission from Westminster in September for the restoration of the Snowdon Aviary. This 1960’s Grade II* listed structure is instantly recognisable but was in need of repair and on Historic England’s Heritage at risk list. Your local Councillors supported this application which will ensure its long-term survival and provide a modern animal enclosure allowing the introduction of new diverse species including the Colobus Monkey, African Grey Parrots and Red Duiker. It will also include a community and learning centre helping to inspire a new generation of children to understand more about animal welfare and conservation. As Ralph Armond, Director General said ‘we are grateful for Cllr Robert Rigby’s support; this project will transform the Snowdon structure and allow us to not only house new animals but also provide a new education facility relevance to both pupils as well as the wider community’.
Tackling issues at the Alpha Close bus stop
Your local Councillors responded quickly when told about engine idling and staff loitering issues at a bus stop outside Hanover Gate Mansions, Park Road/Alpha Close which was affecting the amenity of those residents living near-by. Transport for London (TfL) told us that they had introduced changes to bus routes serving the area because of ‘a significant and sustained change in passenger demand’. As a result the number 13 bus was being held at the bus stop outside this mansion block in an effort to better regulate the service. With pressure being put to bear on TfL by your Councillors, TfL agreed to several initiatives to help alleviate residents concerns including the introduction of a Service Controller to supervise the changeovers and stop drivers from hanging around; a revision of the bus schedule to reduce the likelihood of overlapping buses and drivers being instructed not to stand in the entrance or against the railings at Hanover Gate Mansions.
The Aura Centre - protecting residents' amenity
The Aura Centre is a private dental surgery on Allitsen Road at the junction of Charlbert Street.Planning permission was granted back in 2015 for the use of a number of external air condition units but subsequently there has been concern around the noise impact on residents living near-by given its close proximity to both Linnet and Swallow House (Barrow Hill Estate). Your local Councillors responded and with the help of Westminster Council Officers, there is now an on-going enforcement investigation into the lack of compliance with the original imposed conditions. As one resident said ‘we are really grateful for the support of our Councillors in their efforts to help protect the amenity of residents living nearby to this Centre; what is the point of having conditions if they are ignored’.
